Illinois Drive

Driving to my family's in Illinois takes a little over five hours. One of my favorite parts of the drive is through Galena, IL. It is especially beautiful in the fall, but I took a few pictures along the way to share with you.

When I was a kid, my dad would often stop here on our way back to Illinois. We would make the trek up this tower and look over the landscape. I really didn't appreciate it much as a kid. I was disappointed when I stopped and the tower is closed.

I took these two pictures from the hill next to the tower. Imagine the view from the top!

I took this picture while driving. (That probably wasn't too smart, but I did live to blog about it.) I especially love this scene in the fall when the leaves are full and colorful. I love how the trees meet over the road. I wonder what they say to each other.

Isn't God's creation marvelous? How can anyone believe this world came about by chance?

"I love how the trees meet over the road. I wonder what they say to each other." I really like those sentences, but you know what it makes me think of? The time in college when I said that the weight of the snow on the tree branches made the trees look tired. I believe that I am mocked for that remark even still - at least 10 years later!
But don't worry, Erin. I won't mock you because I, too wonder what the trees say to one another. I'm glad you had a nice trip!

Breathtaking. Whenever I see such beautiful scenes from God's incredible creation I wonder how anyone could believe it evolved over millions and billions of years. I love spring. It makes everything seem new.

Did you go through Dubuque, IA? That's where I grew up & it's only a few minutes from Galena! I used to love to go to Galena- it has GREAT little shops! :)

I do go through Dubuque. I always wish I could drive around there. It looks like there is a lot of history. I'm always in a hurry to get to see my family or get home though. You'll have to let me know of some neat places to stop.

Erin- Your pictures were wonderful, they brought back precious memories. Someday hopeful we can make that jaunt to the top of the tower again. Loved your sentiments, God's creation is overwhelming to me too (must be a family thing). Love you Erin! --Mom
