The End of an Era

Okay, maybe it's not the end of the era, but it is the end of the summer. Tonight is the last night of Family Camp 5 and Monday is the official start of the retreat season. It has been a great summer! We have had over 100 campers trust Christ as their Savior this summer as well as hundreds of other decisions! Lives have been changed at IRBC - including mine. Every summer, we have a send-off for our full-time summer staff. During the evening we will show video testimonies from all of the staff. We each share a fun memory from camp and a blessing from the summer.

Well, it's hard to even start sharing all I have learned. I have learned to rely more on God. There have been so many days this summer that I haven't had the strength to get through on my own, but God was so faithful. At the end of those days, my head would hit the pillow and I'd praise God for getting me through the day and using me.

I also have had to learn to wait. I don't know what my future holds health-wise. It looks like this is something that I'm going to live with. As hard as that seems sometimes, I have to remember that none of this is a surprise to God. He had this planned for my life even before I was born. I will continue to trust Him, lean on Him and learn.

Another highlight has been the opportunities God has given me to interact with the part-time staff this summer. During Water & Work Week, I was able to walk through some decisions with a couple girls and it's been neat to follow through with them and check in with them throughout the summer.

The fun story from the summer is when I had to call Shane about a maintenance issue. Shane is on our year-round staff and is married to Lynnae. At the end of the conversation he said, "Love you, bye." I just died laughing. He didn't even realize he had done it. When he came in the office later that afternoon I said, "Shane, I'm glad that we love each other as a brother and sister in Christ, but let's not tell each other quite so often." It was great!

Come back on Saturday for some fun news!

Oh, Erin, I'm so glad for you that your summer has gone so well. God is amazing, isn't He - how He works through all our weaknesses? Thanks so much for sharing! Camp ends Saturday for us, and I can't wait to relax with my family, but as always, the summer has been amazing. :)

Erin, I'm glad to hear that you enjoyed your summer so well. I have been really concerned about you; I know the Lord is faithful to supply the strength we need, but I didn't want you to struggle. Enjoy your weekend & have some fun!

Sounds like an awesome summer! I have to say you handled the "Love you, bye" well. I had it happen to me once but I didn't bring it up - figured I would be the one embarrassed! YIKES - mine was an older married man though - it was kinda funny but also really weird!
